Year 6 is a challenging and busy year as we begin to prepare for the SATs exams. It is vital that your child stays focused and takes responsibility for their own learning. Throughout the year, they will be provided with a range of exciting learning opportunities, linking to the 3 topic themes: Space, Food Glorious Food and the Egyptians. This year the school has been ‘flooded with books’ resulting in the Year 6 classroom being transformed into Middle Earth. We will be reading the book, ‘The Hobbit’, weekly and regularly intertwining it into our lessons.

Daily reading is expected every evening after school. Every child will have the opportunity to read to a member of staff weekly, where they will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions in order to improve their comprehension skills. Reading regularly supports all aspects of learning by broadening their vocabulary and imagination.
Homework is none negotiable in Year 6. It is an essential part of learning; enabling good progress to be made. Children will be given a piece of Maths and Literacy each week, alongside weekly spellings and compulsory reading (selected chapters from ‘The Hobbit’). As we progress throughout the year their homework will be increased. Rewards will be given to those who complete the extra homework - these are NOT to be missed out on!
P.E kits MUST be in school all week. Children are expected to bring their kits on a Monday and take them home on a Friday.
