Year 5 began our lessons with our gymnastics coach from Elite. We started off by trying to master an arabesque (superman) and retiree (tree) balance. We then moved onto some mat work, attempting dishes and arches, focussing on stretching our arms and legs.
Following on from our balances, we focussed on perfecting our front support and back support. This helped us to control our forward rolls.

Year 5 have been learning how to handstand and cartwheel today. To ensure we were ready to hold our weight, we practised bunny hopping over benches and across mats. We then moved on to practise our handstands and cartwheels with some adult support.
After practising our stretches, jumps and balances we attempted a new hold - the half scorpion hold- it was difficult to keep our balance with this one! Then we moved onto perfecting our handstands without adult support, we’re all extremely tired after all of our hard work!
