The classroom has been transformed into secret world of the tiny race, the Borrowers. We now reside under the floorboards below a Grandfather clock with Pod, Homily and Arietty Clock. We will also be reading the book, ‘The Borrowers' by Mary Norton.
Furthermore, Year 6 is a challenging and busy year as we begin to prepare for the SATs exams. Therefore, it is vital that your child stays focused and takes responsibility for their own learning. Throughout the year, they will be provided with a range of exciting learning opportunities, linking to each topic's theme.
Year 6 Topics
Autumn Term – The Vikings
Spring Term – Ancient Egyptians
Summer Term – Rainforests
Your child will receive a home reading book from school and is expected to read at home every evening and have their reading record signed. Every child will also have the opportunity to read to a member of staff in class each week, where they will have the opportunity to ask and answer questions in order to improve their comprehension skills. Reading regularly supports all aspects of learning by broadening their vocabulary and imagination. Your child must read at home, and have their Reading Record signed at least 4 times per week.
Homework is none negotiable in Year 6. It is an essential part of learning; enabling good progress to be made. Children will be given a piece of Maths and English each week, alongside weekly spellings and compulsory reading (selected chapters from ‘The Hobbit’). Homework will be set using the SeeSaw Application, which all pupil's have a unique code to log in with or in CGP text books. As we progress throughout the year their homework will be increased. Rewards will be given to those who complete the extra homework - these are NOT to be missed out on! Homework
P.E kits must be worn on PE days. Year 6's PE days for Spring Term 1 are Tuesday (dance) and Wednesday (forest schools) .
