  • Upper Key Stage 2

Upper Key Stage 2 is the term for the two years of schooling normally known as Year 5 and Year 6, when pupils are aged between 9 and 11. It's the second half of Key Stage 2. It is the final stage of primary education, bridging the transition to secondary school. Pupils in UKS2 focus on developing greater independence and preparing for the routines and expectations of secondary school.

The Upper Key Stage 2 Phase Leader is Miss Young

In our Upper Key Stage 2 (UKS2) Phase we have three classes:

    • Year 5 - Earth Hero Class - Mr Firth
    • Year 5/ 6 - Grumpfort Class - Miss Young
    • Year 6 - Gold Class - Mrs Beetham

    Upper Key Stage 2 Curriculum

Children will spend two years in Upper Key Stage 2 - Year 5 and Year 6. During this time they will study many different subjects, including: English, Maths, Religion, Science, Computing, Geography, History, PE, Art, Design and Technology, PSHE, Music, French and RSHE. The National Curriculum is taught through a mixture of discrete subject lessons as well as cross-curricular lessons.

Links are made between subjects and are then grouped into topics which the children study. The topics are planned on a rolling programme over two years. Therefore, all of UKS2 work on the same topic at the same time. Topics are planned as a UKS2 phase and teachers liaise very closely to ensure continuity across all classes.

Learning is taught over a two-year cycle.  Children in UKS2 will cover all the requirements of the National Curriculum over the two years that they spend in UKS2.
