  • Key Stage 1

Key Stage 1 is the term for the two years of schooling normally known as Year 1 and Year 2, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7.

The Key Stage 1 Phase Leader is Mrs Bedford

In our Key Stage 1(KS1) Phase we have three classes:

    • Year 1 - Wurlpur Wood Class - Mrs Bayliss
    • Year 1 / 2 - Bee Class - Ms Davies
    • Year 2 - Neverland Class - Mrs Armstrong

In Key Stage One, we are passionate about providing our children with a lifelong love of learning and we want them to enjoy and challenge themselves in every aspect of the curriculum. We aim to immerse our children in our topics.

We link the skills we are teaching the children to the topic areas, for example, following directions to make a treasure map in Geography or using artefacts in History. Furthermore, we encourage creativity in subjects such as art and provide pupils with opportunities to apply skills they have learnt. Where possible, we plan immersive trips or experiences to provide children with an exciting hook to the topic.

We are a nurturing and supportive team and we hope your children leave Year Two with fond memories and a love for learning.

    Key Stage 1 Curriculum

These pages give details of how the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 is covered in our school.  Learning is taught over a two-year cycle.  Children in KS1 will cover all the requirements of the National Curriculum over the two years that they spend in KS1.

The National Curriculum is taught through a mixture of discrete subject lessons as well as cross-curricular lessons.

The topics are planned on a rolling programme over two years. Therefore, all of KS1 work on the same topic at the same time. Topics are planned as a KS1 phase and teachers liaise very closely to ensure continuity across all classes.
