Primary School P.E. and Sport Funding 2016/2017

Most schools with primary-age pupils receive the PE and sport premium. Schools receive this funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £8,000 and an additional payment of £5 per pupil. The funding comes directly into school and they have the freedom to spend it as they feel will most benefit the children in their school. School Leaders and Governing Bodies are accountable for the impact of this spending.

At Pinders, we have already been involved in making a joint appointment in our pyramid of schools for a School Sports Co-ordinator. This role is being undertaken by Steve Biltcliffe, Wakefield School Sports Network. This year we have a Dance Specialist working with class teachers to support them with the planning of dance and Sports Coaches coming into school to work with teachers and lead lunchtime activities and after school clubs. In addition, we take both Years 4 and 5 to Sun Lane Pool for swimming lessons each week as opposed to 1 year group, which was the traditional model at our school. Although this is a more expensive option, it means that children have more opportunity to develop their swimming than was the case in the past.

We will be taking part in various inter-school sports events this academic year!

In 2016-17, we are continuing to provide after-school clubs free of charge to the children.
