Conrad Burdekin Our Patron Of Reading

What is a Patron of Reading?

A Patron of Reading is a school's special children's author, poet, storyteller or illustrator. The school and their patron develop a relationship over a period of time. Everything the patron does is related to helping encourage and develop a reading for pleasure culture in the school: blogs, book recommendations, discussions, plays, book quizzes, poetry bashes, parent sessions, book trailers and school visits.  Created by headteacher Tim Redgrave, the idea has now spread to over 200 schools across the British Isles (as well as to schools as far away as New Zealand and the USA!).

Our Patron of reading is Conrad Burdekin - a creative writer and Poet from Yorkshire

2020/21- Conrad Burdekin, our Patron of Reading, joined us virtually for Book Week this year. He read stories, poems and also told a unique stories that our classes helped to create. We had lots of fun and laughter along the way!

As part of our whole school poetry week, our patron of reading, Conrad Burdekin, came to work with all the children. He started the week with a whole school poetry assembly, where he shared some of his own poems. After that he worked with each class to create a performance poem around the theme of anti-bullying.
